Stereotypical habits of Hungarian tourists
Everyone has encountered stereotypes about certain nations. These often prejudiced ideas are in everyone’s mind and there are such statements for the people of every nation. They are mostly based on observations. Sometimes they have a grain of truth, sometimes they do not. There are also many stereotypes about Hungarians on holiday. Whether they are true or not is for everyone to decide.
Research over the past decades shows that you are not determined by your nationality.
Researchers have found no correlation between people’s actual personality traits and the national stereotypes they are perceived to have,
divany.hu reports. A previous study shows four character traits associated with Hungary and Hungarians.
The Hungarian eats too much
At the breakfast buffet, Hungarians turn to their table several times with well-stocked plates. It has been no secret that Hungarians have a good appetite, but for many, a buffet that has been overrun can be antipathetic.
According to reports from foreign hostels,
it is common for Hungarians to pack themselves food for the whole day from breakfast.
Stealing hotel equipment
In the international hotel industry, a survey is often conducted to see which countries’ tourists take souvenirs from their hotels. Russians top the list,
but Hungarians also often take things out of the hotel.
Most often it is the smaller items that go missing, such as shampoo. But also towels, bathrobes and even toilet paper are taken away by 20% of the guests, writes femina.hu. We also hear of salt or pepper shakers going missing from restaurants, or cutlery.
No foreign language
Several polls and surveys have shown that Hungarians are not so good at speaking foreign languages.
A previous survey showed that 61% of the Hungarian population do not speak any foreign languages.
Often, the only result of pointing fingers is misunderstanding and disagreement.
Strange habits
Two thirds of Hungarians surveyed put comfort before fashion when it comes to dressing. The most interesting is wearing sandals and socks at the same time. However, a belt pouch or a plastic wallet hanging around the neck is also unusual for many. In addition, a favourite dish of Hungarian tourists is the sandwich with Wiener schnitzel brought from home.
